St Alban’s School – 100th Anniversary

A Century of Faith and Learning: St Alban’s Celebrates 100 Years

St Alban’s Catholic Primary and Nursery School has reached a massive milestone, proudly celebrating its 100th anniversary. The historic centenary celebrations took place on Friday, 3rd July 2026, bringing together students, staff, parishioners, and families from across the Denaby Main community.

The special day began with a morning Mass of Thanksgiving, which welcomed back several former staff members who had dedicated years of service to the school in decades past. Following the liturgy, the celebration took a festive turn for the pupils, who were treated to a traditional fish-and-chip lunch and an immersive performance bringing the last 100 years of school history to life.

The festivities continued into the afternoon with a vibrant summer fair, complete with a raffle, a tombola, and even a special appearance by a bear dressed in the school’s signature St Alban’s uniform.

Reflecting on the milestone, Headteacher Lindsey Ebsworth shared how deeply the school leaned into its rich heritage:

“We decorated the school with photos stretching from the 1920s to the present day, taking our parishioners on a visual tour back in time. Grandparents joined us to share wonderful stories over tea and cake, and we even discovered a poem written exactly 50 years ago, which we were thrilled to share with our community.

In a beautiful nod to our roots, Father Augustine blessed a historic plaque that was presented to us directly from the old local Cadeby pit community. Our 2026 Centenary celebration was the most wonderful day, creating memories that will hopefully remain with us over the next 50 years.”
